NCUA has added a new page to its consumer site, MyCreditUnion.gov, with useful information about preventing or reporting identity theft that may be perpetrated using fake contacts that appear to be IRS requests for taxpayer information. MyCreditUnion.gov has several resources to help credit union members understand and prevent identity theft as well as frauds and scams generally. The agency also has videos on fighting frauds and scams on its YouTube channel.

Check out these resources and learn to protect yourself!

CELL PHONE SCAMS

If ever a member receives a text messages claiming to be your credit union and that your debit card has been suspended or compromised, BEWARE!  Some of these text or calls request that you call another phone number to reactivate the card by giving them your card number, pin, phone and address.

This is a scam, Mosaic FCU will NEVER contact a member by text or email.

DO NOT REPLY TO THESE TYPES OF MESSAGES!!  DELETE IMMEDIATELY!!

BEWARE OF PHISHING SCAMS!

Mosaic Federal Credit Union will NEVER contact our members via e-mail requesting you provide us with private information.  Be aware you could be the target of a Phishing Scam.

There's a new type of Internet piracy called "phishing", and that's exactly what these thieves are doing:  "fishing" for your personal financial information.  What they want to catch are your account numbers and other confidential information in order to steal your money or identity.

To protect yourself, NEVER provide your personal information in response to an unsolicited request, whether it is over the phone or the Internet.  If you did not initiate the communication, you should not provide any information.  Review your account statements regularly to make sure all charges are correct.
